Augustus. Silver Denarius (3.87 g), 27 BC-AD 14. Colonia Patricia(?), ca. 19 BC CAESAR AVGVSTVS, bare head of Augustus to right. Reverse : SIGNIS RECEPTIS above and below, S P Q R around, round shield inscribed CL V between legionary standard and aquila. RIC 87a; BMC 422; RSC 265a. Boldly struck with a fine high relief portrait. Perfectly centered on a full size flan with gorgeous cabinet toning with reddish iridescense. Superb Extremely Fine. The reverse shows the clipeus virtutis, the shield of valor, decreed to Augustus by the Senate in 27 BC. Like the corona civica, it was awarded for saving the life of a fellow citizen.
