BRITISH COINS, Flanders, Ghent, 1582, Flemish Gold Noble in imitation of the English design, City in Rebellion against Philip II (1581-1584), Royal figure standing facing in ship with shield of lion rampant, banner at rear of ship with three lis, the arms of François of Anjou, letter N to right, rev sexfoil at centre surrounded by ornate cross with lis terminals, crowned lions in angles, initial mark lion rampant left, legend ends in date figures “82”, 6.59g (Friedberg 242). Once cracked in half and repaired with associated cleaning and retouching, otherwise very fine. £500-700
