1474,
SPAIN. 2 Excelentes, ND. Toledo Mint. Ferdinand & Isabella (1474-1504). NGC MS-63.
Fr-130; Cal-type-91#97; Cayon-2946. Prior to the conquest of South America, gold coinage issued in the Spanish mainland was minimal. The elaborate gold issues produced during the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella give a direct testimony to the wealth Spain plundered from the New World and its inhabitants. Within the first decade of conquest thousands of kilos of gold were being shipped back to Spain. This massive influx of gold help create the rumor of the Eldorado, the fabled city of gold. Exquisite detail, full legends. Nice mint luster.
