1 Cent    (sold for $3100.0)

1831 N-6 R1 Large Letters. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown and chocolate, a third of the red showing on the obverse and half of the red remaining on the reverse. No spots or stains. This is a solid gem cent except for a dull nick just right of the eye and a tiny one just below the eye. Nicely struck MDS. The obverse fields are satiny from microscopic die flowlines (the obverse fields are smooth and reflective in the early state), and traces of microscopic die rust can be found on both sides. Our grade is MS64, and this piece is the second finest known of the variety behind a slightly finer example. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Population 1; none finer at NGC. Estimated Value $2,000-UP. Ex Bowers & Merena 11/4/2010:428-Kenneth Goodman. Categories: Liberty Cents
