1706,
Austria. 1706 Box Taler. Choice Very Fine.
Fascinating Austrian Box Taler
Created from the obverse shell of a Hall Mint taler of Leopold I (Dav-3245) and the reverse shell of a Hall Mint taler of Joseph I (Dav-1018). The two halves are fitted with a single turn threading and within the reverse shell is a silver cliche featuring a portrait bust of the short lived King Ferdinand IV, elder brother to Leopold I. An interesting and well made item featuring influence from three Holy Roman Emperors. Even old toning with mild wear to the high points.
Pedigree: From the Henry P. Kendall Foundation Collection. Earlier from our (Stack's) Sale of the Alfred R. Globus Collection, Part II, April 1974, lot 263.
